Statewide Term Limits

Posted by azi on February 8, 2006

Bill Weld thinks it’s a good idea.

In a speech in Rochester today, he said, “I believe eight years in the same office should be enough for everybody: the Governor, the Attorney General, the Comptroller, and our legislators.”

Before letting the reform-mantle  go, Weld  dove into (he’s always diving into something, eh?) the etymology of  the word gerrymander.

“The term gerrymander comes from an old district in Massachusetts that was constructed in such a way as to ensure the election of someone from a particular party. It was said to look like a salamander. And since the Governor at that time was named Gerry, the district became known as the ‘Gerrymander.’ “
